Summer Programs

For High School Students

ASM International Materials Camp

This weeklong academic camp features highly interactive, lab-based activity tailored to individual student interest areas.

Materials Introductory Two-Day Course

This course gives incoming freshmen the opportunity to observe how materials are manufactured, tested, and utilized. Students will prepare an in-depth study of the manufacture of a specific article, covering its design concept, materials selection, fabrication and performance in use. Laboratories and demonstrations familiarize participants with state of the art materials research and development and the instruments and equipment used.

High School Summer Mentorship Program

The College of Engineering Summer Mentorship Program is a dynamic, two-week research experience that provides high school students with a unique opportunity to work in a Drexel laboratory on an individualized research project. In addition to the educational experience that research provides, students will also gain a competitive edge in the college application office and foster relationships with their faculty mentors, as well as like-minded high school students.

Summer Engineering Experience @ Drexel (SEED) - no longer offered

The Summer Engineering Experience @ Drexel (SEED) Program grants high school students the opportunity to better understand the world of engineers. During the week students will complete “hands-on” laboratory experiments across many different fields of engineering, visit local industries to get a first hand glance into some of the new and exciting things our local engineers are designing and building, compete in a week-long design and building competition, and meet new people who share their interests.

For Teachers

Research Experience for Teachers: NANO

High school and community college teachers: looking for a paid learning experience for the summer? Undergraduate Research Opportunities

Our department not only offers but strongly encourages undergraduate research—nothing looks better to potential employers than hands-on laboratory experience. This page has a wealth of information about our Materials research groups that are seeking qualified undergraduates.

For Graduate Students

NSF-IGERT: Integrated Graduate Education and Research Traineeship in Nanoscale Science and Engineering

Prospective graduate students: learn how you can get paid to go to school while studying the cutting-edge field of nanotechnology. This prestigious fellowship for high achieving graduate students is sponsored by NSF and co-hosted by Drexel University and the University of Pennsylvania.

GAANN-DREAM: Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need - Drexel Research and Education in Advanced Materials

The Department of Education GAANN-DREAM program provides need-based graduate fellowships in five exciting research areas: nanomaterials, biomaterials, design of materials, particulate processing, and electronic and photonic materials. Additionally, fellows will receive teaching preparation for future academic careers and the opportunity to participate in an international or industrial research experience.

CMSE-GAANN: Computational Materials Science and Engineering - Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need

The Department of Education CMSE-GAANN program provides need-based fellowships to Ph.D. students at Drexel University who will receive exceptional training in research and education in the field of computational materials science and engineering in the critical areas of novel materials and nanotechnology; defense applications; manufacturing, design, and optimization; digital signal processing in materials characterization; and bioengineering and bioinformatics.

GAANN: Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need

This Department of Education-sponsored fellowship provides stipend and tuition sponsorship for students with financial need in a wide variety of cutting-edge research areas. U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is required.
