Spanier and Colleagues' Research Receives Coverage on Optics.org

The research work of Professor Jontathan Spanier, associate professor in MSE and colleague Professor Bahram Nabet, professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and students James Shackleford and Richard Grote and Dr. Marc Currie of the Office of Naval Research, appears in a March 27, 2009 article in optics.org.

The article, entitled "Plasmonic lens improves photodetector," details the researchers' work on improving imaging and optical applications through the incorporation of a plasmonic lens.  Their work was recently published in Applied Physics Letters.

Scanning electron micrograph of the planar integrated plasmonic
lens metal-semiconductor-metal photodetector taken with a stage tilt of approximately 45° in respect to the
device normal. The incident laser beam is directed at the device with normal
incidence =0 and is centered about the device aperture. (Reproduced from Appl. Phys. Lett. 94, 083501, 2009).

Optics.org is an online resource for lasers, optics, and photonics news and research maintained by IOP Publishing.
