Zavaliangos Receives NSF-GOALI

Dr. Antonios Zavaliangos, professor and department head in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, has received a National Science Foundation Grant Opportunities for Academic Liaison with Industry (NSF-GOALI) totaling $340,000 over three years for the project  “GOALI: Processing and Optimization of Multilayered Pharmaceutical Tablets.”

This project will focus on the elimination of mechanical defects in multilayer tablets, which are becoming a key drug delivery method for coexisting medical conditions and multidrug therapies.  The industrial partner is  Merck & Co., Inc. who will make their research facilities available to Drexel faculty and students for this project at no cost.
