Spanier Receives Multiple Grant Awards

Professor Jonathan Spanier, associate professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, is the recipient of two recent grants.

Along with Dr. Nick Sbrockey of Structured Materials Industries (SMI), Inc., Spanier has received a one-year Air Force Office of Scientific Research award in the amount of $100,000 for the project "Fabrication technology for oxide film heterostructure devices."

Additionally, Spanier is part of a team that was awarded a two-year $750,000 Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Phase 2 grant, “Frequency-Agile Ka-Band Filters Based on Functionally Graded BST Thin Films” from the US Army Research Office to investigate frequency-agile filter materials.  The team is led by PI Dr. Nick Sbrockey of SMI, Inc., and colleagues Dr. Pamir Alpay from the University of Connecticut and Dr. T. S. Kalkur of the University of Northern Colorado.

Both projects are STTR awards and involve researching the vapor-phase materials deposition, processing, and properties of complex oxides for electronic devices.
