Co-PI Gogotsi Part of $6M NSF Grant

Trustee Chair Professor Yury Gogotsi is the Co-PI on a $6M Major Research Infrastructure-Recovery and Reinvestment (MRI-R2) grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF).

Drexel is the lead institution for the five-year project, "Development of a Common Platform for Unifying Humanoids Research," and will receive $4M.  PI on the grant is Dr. Youngmoo Kim of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and also serving as Co-PI is Dr. William Regli of the Department of Computer Science.  Partner institutions include Carnegie Mellon, MIT, Ohio State, the University of Pennsylvania, Purdue, the University of Southern California, and Virginia Tech.

This project builds upon Drexel's existing NSF award, Partnership for International Research and Education (PIRE), led by Dr. Paul Oh of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics in conjunction with the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). The MRI-R2 effort will develop the world’s first homogenous adult-sized humanoid robot team, enabling researchers across the country to work with a common instrument to compare, benchmark, and validate methods and results. The goal of this project is to vertically advance the US to the forefront of humanoids research.
