Ph.D. Student Amalie Donius Awarded NSF EAPSI

Ph.D. student Amalie Donius (advisor:  Ulrike Wegst) has been awarded a National Science Foundation East Asia and Pacific Summer Institutes (NSF-EAPSI) Fellowship for 2011.  As an NSF-EAPSI Fellow, Amalie will travel to Kyoto University in Uji, Kyoto, Japan to work with Dr. Hiroyuki Yano and his laboratory in the summer of 2012.

The NSF-EAPSI program is a ten-week summer fellowship to introduce U.S. graduate students to East Asia and Pacific science and engineering research to foster future collaborations with foreign partners.  Fellows receive a $5,000 stipend, airfare, support for a pre-departure orientation, and abroad living expenses from the foreign collaborators, as well as an orientation to the science and culture of the location.

Amalie is one of two MSE Ph.D. students to receive the award for 2011.  Ph.D. student Oren Leaffer (advisor:  Jonathan Spanier) is also a recipient of the award and will travel to Australia this summer.
